El pasado mes de julio de 2014, el Presidente de la ONGD Educar para Vivir, Javier Collado, tuvo la oportunidad de visitar Viet Nam UNESCO en Ha Noi. Durante el evento, la señora Katherine Muller Marin, Directora Representante de la UNESCO en Vietnam, informó sobre la coordinación que la UNESCO y las autoridades locales han desarrollado para mejorar las escuelas sobre la Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible. También expresó la importancia de cambiar la educación tradicional centrada en los conceptos y terminologías, mediante el aumento de metodologías participativas para hacer comunidades más preparadas, resistentes y sostenibles.
En este sentido, las escuelas y sus comunidades circundantes están bajo amenaza constante. El Ministerio de Educación y Formación (MOET), la UNESCO y la Iniciativa de Samsung Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible (EDS) en Viet Nam han dado pasos importantes para crear un entorno propicio para las escuelas y comunidades a identificar sus propios riesgos y amenazas y para desarrollar e implementar planes conjuntos. Además, la iniciativa promueve la necesidad de preparar una ciudadanía bioalfabetizada que entienda que la Conservación y la Restauración de la Biodiversidad es una de las herramientas más importantes para la preparación de desastres y la mitigación del cambio climático. «Bioalfabetización es la capacidad de entender el lenguaje de la vida. Ciudadanos bioalfabetizados son los que son capaces de desarrollar en armonía con la naturaleza«, expresó la señora Muller Marin. «Bajo la dirección del Ministerio de Educación y Formación, Viet Nam Programa Hombre y Biosfera de la UNESCO y el Consejo de Administración de la Reserva de la Biosfera, los niños han aumentado sus conocimientos sobre los retos relacionados con la Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible, como el cambio climático, la pérdida de biodiversidad, y otros problemas ambientales «.
En el encuentro, también se dialogó sobre la consulta técnica de Educación para la Ciudadanía Global y la Conferencia Mundial de la UNESCO sobre Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible – Aprender hoy para un Futuro Sostenible, que tendrá lugar los días 10-12 de Noviembre en Japón con motivo de la final del Decenio de las Naciones Unidas de la Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible.

The last month of July 2014, Education for Life NGO President, Javier Collado, had the opportunity to visit Viet Nam UNESCO in Ha Noi. During the event, Mrs. Katherine Muller Marin, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam, was talking about the coordination that UNESCO has been enhanced between schools and local authorities on Education for Sustainable Development. She also expressed the importance to change the traditional education focused in concepts and terminologies, by increasing participatory methodologies to make communities more prepared, resilient and sustainable.
In this sense, schools and their surrounding communities are under constant threat. The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), UNESCO and Samsung Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Initiative in Viet Nam has made significant steps to create an enabling environment for schools and communities to identify their own risks and threats and to develop and implement joint plans. Most importantly, the Initiative promotes the need for preparing bioliterate citizens who understand Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration is one of the most relevant tools for disaster preparedness and climate change mitigation. «Bioliteracy is the ability to understand the language of life. Bioliterate citizens are those capable of developing in harmony with nature,» expressed Mrs. Muller Marin. «Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, Viet Nam Man and Biosphere Programme, UNESCO and the Biosphere Reserve Management Board, children have increased their knowledge on the challenges linked to Education for Sustainable Development such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and other environmental issues.«
In the meeting, they also talked about the technical consultation on Global Citizenship Education and the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development – Learning Today for a Sustainable Future which will take place on 10-12 November in Japan with the occasion of the end of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
